has a newcomer lived up to the hype the way Keys does. From the
almost operatic piano intro to the minimalistic outro, the 19-year-old
singer never ceases to surprise & delight. She taps into the
blues, soul, jazz and even classical music to propel haunting melodies
and hard-driven funk. The stunning first single, Fallin,' a bluesy
ode to self-destructive love, is only a teaser for what she has
to offer. Keys already has a musical, artistic and thematic maturity

What started out as a music industry
buzz that piqued interest and inspired discovery has now blossomed
into genuine anticipation of an undeniably gifted artist.
 Young R&B soul prodigy Alicia Keys
has been embraced as one of the most extraordinary debuts of the
year. Already, the 20-year-old Alicia has dazzled critics with her
self-penned tour de force - out June 26, 2001 on J Records - while
live audiences are left stunned and energized by her performances.
The music industry has opened its arms to this artist as well, clearing
radio airwaves for her single Fallin' while MTV dubs her "buzzworthy"
and BET propels the video to #1 on their channel. On June 21st,
Alicia will perform on the Oprah Winfrey Show and June 22, Alicia
performs on the The Tonight Show.
Showcasing her sophisticated songwriting, spine-tingling vocal power,
proficiency on the piano and get-up-and-dance groove, Songs in A
Minor is classic soul for the hip-hop generation. Cuts like the
luminous "Fallin'," "A Woman's Worth," and "Troubles"-all
written and produced by Keys- reflect back to timeless R&B while
hip-hop gets a major nod on "Girlfriend" with Jermaine
Dupri and "Rock Wit U" with Isaac Hayes. "Butterflyz"
is the first song ever written by Keys when she was 13-years-old.
Alicia is joined by labelmate and partner-in-soul Jimmy Cozier on
"Mr. Man," a song written and performed by the two. The
album also features a cover of Prince's "How Come You Don't
Call Me Anymore," a show stopping number when performed live.
Born and raised in Manhattan, Keys showed
an early penchant for the piano and began to write music from the
age of 13. She eventually attended Professional Performance Art
School of Manhattan, where a close musical instructor gave her valuable
insight on her singing - the closest thing she had ever received
to vocal training. Alicia Keys graduated high school early at the
age of 16 and was accepted by Columbia University. Yet 10 years
of music had been growing to a crescendo, so she decided to focus
on her talent, and in 1998, caught the attention of industry legend
Clive Davis, then president of Arista Records. Keys joined Clive
Davis at the age of 18 and began writing, producing and recording
her first album. In late 1999, Alicia followed Davis to his new
label J Records, and put the finishing touches on what is now her
debut album, Songs In A Minor.

Alicia Keys, the artist collaborates with Jermaine Dupri on “Girlfriend”

 Born and raised in Manhattan, the stunning, bi-racial
Alicia Keys recognizes a number of influences including her ultra-supportive
mother who told her “You can quit anything else but you can
never give up on your piano lessons.” Alicia also sites a
teacher at the Professional Performance Arts School in Manhattan
who, while she was majoring in Choir, gave her valuable instruction
on her voice. “This teacher spent so much time with me, she
became the closest thing to vocal training I received,” Alicia
recalls. At age 16, Alicia’s outstanding grades allowed her
to finish high school early. “I was so deeply involved in
music, I had already outgrown all the pressure of high school cliques
and gossip.” Right out of high school, Columbia University
accepted Alicia Keys and though she gave it a whirl, the desire
to focus on music was the driving force over all else.

 It’s no wonder that Key2Soul is a favorite with
fans or that Key2Soul has been chosen to be the designated coolsite
for Netscape Open Directory for Alicia Keys. Not only will users
find up-to-minute news, articles and TV appearances there are also
great, unique additions in “the keys” section such as, “sheet music,”
“learn to play” and “shop” a section to purchase keyboards. Fans
will also find an extensive collection of audio and video samples
as well as a lovely photo gallery. Certainly the work of a dedicated

 This is a pretty straightforward site and it’s
very easy to navigate. Visitors will find five different galleries;
one of them (the Fallin Live gallery) is exclusive. Although video
downloads are available the audio, icons, and wallpaper are all
marked coming soon. One cool option on this site is the e-mail section
where usurers are directed to sign up for their Alicia Keys e-mail
account. If you’re a fan with your own site, link to this one and
the webmaster will list you in return for listing this site.

This is a fantastic fan site that’s
updated frequently. One of the best new features is the “fan of
the month,” where fans are asked to take a quiz to see if they’re
on top of their Alicia Keys knowledge. This webmaster is also considerate
enough to remind visitors of various television appearances or other
performances that are up coming.  Be sure and join the buzzing message boards

This is a good-looking fan site with
a cover design that pays homage to the official Alicia Keys site.
Updated frequently, the front page is full of the latest breaking

This award site has been created to
honor the many Alicia Keys websites, and there are many to choose
from. Visitors, fans, and site creators should absolutely check
out this site. All though nominations are now closed for this season,
take the time to check out the nominees in six categories including,
“Best Multimedia,” “Most Organized,” “Most Updated,” “All Around
Best,” “Best News,” and “Best Layout.” Voting was completed on September
25, 2001 and users can view the lucky winners. This is a fabulous

I always love to get an international
feel for what fans are doing online. This UK site is gorgeous and
like a few other fan sites, it pays homage to the look of Alicia’s
album as well as the official site. Users can download ten desktop
images of Alicia Keys as well as ten winamp skins of Alicia.  The photo gallery is nicely done; it includes
artwork from CD’s, TV appearances as well as video captures. All
in all a great fan site.

This is a very original, simple and

skins. This site has an extensive collection of pictures of Alicia
from various, events, interviews, promotions, concerts and magazines.
